Project Objectives

In collaboration with game production education institutions across Japan, this initiative aims to train a new generation of leader-type game creators who will further enhance the strengths of Japanese creativity through integrated, practice-based approaches that bring together academia, culture, and game production education.
At the same time, we will promote international exchange, collaborative projects, and exhibitions. Also as a formal institutional initiative, Ritsumeikan University has established the Research Center for ASOBI Creation (ASOBI meaning ‘play’) to build a sustainable foundation for long-term talent development and a robust framework for international collaboration.

Project Approach

Building on the industry–academia–government partnerships in game production education that have been cultivated in the Kansai region, this initiative will establish a program to develop creators with a global perspective and advanced, multifaceted literacy grounded in long-term and strategic thinking, by incorporating a new and strong partnership with Tokyo University of the Arts.
Furthermore, we are eager to establish a platform which allows game production educators to consolidate and share their knowledge for future standardization.

Ritsumeikan University

2020 marked the 150th year celebration of the start of “Ritsumeikan” as a private academy and 2025 marked the 125th anniversary of the official foundation of the academy. Currently, the Ritsumeikan Trust (legal entity) has evolved into a comprehensive educational institution comprising two universities (Ritsumeikan University and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University) and four junior high schools and four senior high schools and one primary school. Ritsumeikan University comprises 17 undergraduate colleges and 22 graduate schools. It is a richly diverse private university where approximately 38,000 college and graduate school students, including about 3,200 international students from overseas, gather to study.
