Project Objectives

Leveraging the manga education, research studies, and network developed over the years and collaborating with publishers as well as domestic and international educational and research institutions, Kyoto Seika University aspires to nurture creators and other professionals who are capable of thriving in the world. In this project, curricula for distance education will be developed and deployed as unique learning program in addition to the establishment of a distance education manga department. Such implementations will help increase learning opportunities, further promote Japan’s manga culture to the world, and sustainably strengthen its cultural values and international presence.

Project Approach

Through collaboration with domestic and international partner institutions, distance education-based curricula for the nurturing of manga talents will be developed. In the first phase, materials for distance education will be created. Partner institutions will analyze needs and conduct a proof of concept. These will serve as a basis for the development of a unique program and official curricula. In the second phase, this unique program will be launched and operated, while an application for approval to establish a distance education manga department and student recruitment will be carried out in preparation for its opening in FY2030.
