The Association of Public Theaters and Halls in Japan

Official Social Media

Project Objectives

The project aims to develop overseas coordinators for Performing Arts and establish a sustainable support system. By doing so, it seeks to ensure that outstanding Japanese stage productions are regularly introduced at international arts markets, leading to invitations and touring opportunities around the world.

Project Approach

This project, in collaboration with the Yokohama International Performing Arts Meeting (YPAM), selects 10 producers and stage technicians through an open call and screening. They participate in overseas festivals and platforms for training through observation, exchange, and presentations, aiming to develop “overseas coordinators” who continuously promote Japan’s performing arts abroad.

The Association of Public Theaters and Halls in Japan

The Association of Public Theaters and Halls in Japan is a nationwide umbrella organization comprising approximately 1,300 public cultural facilities—such as theaters and halls—established by local governments across Japan. Under the collective efforts of national and public institutions, The Association promotes regional culture and advances the nation’s cultural and artistic development through a range of initiatives, including:
1. Research and surveys 2. Human resource development 3. Cultural and arts information dissemination 4. Insurance services 5. Support programs
For this project, the Association in line with the objectives of this project, collaborates with the Yokohama International Performing Arts Meeting to reassess the contemporary significance of international engagement in the field of Performing Arts and to promote cross-border exchange among theaters and halls.
