Project Objectives

The company will present Giselle, directed by Artistic Director Miyako Yoshida, at the Royal Opera House in London, one of the world’s most prestigious ballet venues. Through this experience, the National Ballet of Japan aims to foster internationally competitive dancers and enhance the global visibility of Japanese ballet.

Project Approach

A training program led by Artistic Director Miyako Yoshida and Japanese and British experts will support ballet dancers and staffs. Promotion through overseas PR and recorded videos will be conducted. In July 2025, the Royal Ballet’s Giselle—the National Theatre’s first overseas independent production—will be performed, fostering world-class dancers and globally minded staff.

New National Theatre, Tokyo

The New National Theatre Tokyo (NNTT) is Japan’s only national theater dedicated to contemporary Performing Arts, and since its opening in 1997, it has independently planned, produced, and presented performances across three departments—opera, ballet & dance, and drama. The National Ballet of Japan, based at the NNTT, maintains a diverse repertoire ranging from classical works and 20th-century masterpieces to creations by contemporary choreographers and original productions by the theater. Under the artistic direction of Miyako Yoshida, the company has steadily built a reputation as one of Japan’s leading ballet institutions.
