Kyoto Experiment Training Platform
Kyoto Experiment
Project Objectives
In Japan’s performing arts sector, the number of specialized curators remains small compared to other countries. From its inception, Kyoto Experiment has appointed program director responsible for curation, making it one of the few festivals in Japan to do so, and has garnered international attention. This project uses the festival as a platform to train the next generation of curators as globally active professionals. By doing so, it aims to strengthen international collaborations and opportunities for Japanese curators, stage staff, directors, and critics, thereby enhancing the global presence of Japanese culture and the arts.
Project Approach
To develop curators active in the global performing arts field, this initiative aims to (1) nurture aspiring curators through showcase projects, (2) expand international networks by inviting overseas curators, (3) train artists via overseas productions, (4) develop international producers and technical directors, and (5) cultivate critics through review projects. These initiatives are designed with an emphasis on creating synergy, aiming to support the international advancement of curators, stage staff, directors, and critics, while building and strengthening networks with overseas theaters and arts festivals, and ultimately promoting the international presentation of produced works.
