Project Objectives

In collaboration with film-related organizations, including the Japan Motion Picture Production Standards Association (J-MOPS), the project will conduct research to foster a talent development ecosystem, aimed to provide opportunities for Japanese filmmakers and production professionals to acquire global competencies and establish working environments that meet international standards. Furthermore, it will strengthen partnerships with international film organizations to enhance talent development and exchange programs both domestically and abroad.

Project Approach

To establish a baseline for our programs, the project will conduct quantitative and qualitative research regarding film production environments and compile a comprehensive database. Based on these insights, we will develop and implement practical overseas workshops for established, yet emerging filmmakers, as well as reskilling programs for production professionals, to further enhance their global competencies. Consequently, this initiative will reinforce the talent base necessary to facilitate international co-productions, expand the overseas distribution of Japanese films, and support global-standard film shoots in Japan by international productions.

Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO) is a non-profit organization established in 2004 to facilitate greater international competitiveness of Japan’s media content industries, such as film, TV, animation, manga, video games, music, characters, and publishing, as well as to contribute to stimulating the Japanese economy.
Through various activities focused on talent development and overseas distribution/market expansion, VIPO supports efforts to further increase the value of the industry as a whole and its long-term success from a global perspective.
