Project Objectives

Over the course of three years, the program, which centers on the production and distribution of works aimed at the North American market by drawing on Japanese manga techniques, will develop individuals who can succeed internationally in the publishing industry. The long-term goal is for editors who have completed this project to contribute to enhancing the global competitiveness of the industry by creating new value for Japanese manga and helping establish manga culture in North America.

Project Approach

The CORE (Creative Overseas Resources for Editors) Project offers practical training in manga production and publishing for the North American market through collaboration with a diverse range of manga artists from diverse national backgrounds. The curriculum of workshops and so forth is formulated based on “How to Create Manga,” “Building Relationships with North American Manga Artists (intercultural communication and co-production facilitation),” and “Analyzing North American Readers and Market (trend awareness, data analysis, basic marketing).”

It is a three-year program that aims to develop international editors who can successfully leverage their Japanese manga skills in the North American market. Participants will collaborate with manga writers of a host of different nationalities and learn aspects such as production work, intercultural communication, market analysis, and marketing. The goal is for graduates to enhance the global competitiveness of the industry in the future by generating new value locally and helping establish Japanese manga culture there.
