Project Objectives
The production committee system is the dominant model within the Japanese film industry. There is a strong emphasis placed on prioritizing a guaranteed return on investment, with opportunities for young talent limited and very few touch points with overseas markets. The project will train professionals with a producer mindset by offering three key elements: lectures, mentoring, and practical overseas experience. This project will build a next-generation Japanese film ecosystem that produces creators with an awareness of global standards and who can succeed in international co-production and overseas pitching settings.
Project Approach
Forty-five creators with global aspirations will be selected for a three-year program aimed at discovering and developing creators who can succeed internationally.Practical training will be provided with an eye on taking the creators’ own projects to overseas markets. By actively participating in overseas markets and pitching events, project participants gain hands-on experience in global roll-out efforts through international co-productions and distribution both in Japan and abroad. The project aims to establish a production model that can distribute and release Japanese intellectual property productions to the world while achieving both sustainable profit and international acclaim.
