Project Objectives

The aim of this project is to nurture composers and sound creators who can add effective music/sounds to visual content. Specifically, Tokyo College of Music aspires to conduct interviews with experts in the media, art, and entertainment industries to identify the qualities of ideal professionals, and establish a “Music Innovation Special Program” (provisional) in 2028, which will help students develop skills to create music for different genres, international communication skills, and capabilities necessary for co-production.

Project Approach

Based on consultations with experts in the media, art, and entertainment industries and collaboration with domestic and overseas educational institutions and organizations, Tokyo College of Music will design a curriculum, review its teaching framework, and examine English language training programs, each designed to help students develop skills necessary for international communication and co-production. In addition, the education program content will be verified through pilot courses offered to current students and participation in overseas events.

Tokyo College of Music

Tokyo College of Music was founded by Yonejiro Suzuki in 1907 as Toyo School of Music. It is Japan’s oldest private music college. Based on the school philosophy of “Contributing to society through music”, the college has placed emphasis on the pursuit of knowledge rooted in traditions and connecting them to the current society. As one of its activities, the college has engaged in the training of composers and sound creators through productions, performances, and international communications.
