Project Objectives

This project aims to establish a comprehensive, long-term talent cultivation framework. At its core is the development of exceptional creators and producers capable of thriving internationally and across disciplines. Furthermore, the project extends its scope to cultivating researchers who can accumulate and share pedagogical knowledge, as well as educators who can put these educational practices into action.

Project Approach

As an academia-industry-government co-creation research hub, we are establishing the "DoCK Visual Media Research Center." Guided by our mission to drive the Development of Co-Creative Knowledge (DoCK), we are committed to designing and implementing innovative educational programs that equip talent with broad, versatile expertise. Throughout this process, the institutional knowledge generated, such as theoretical frameworks, pedagogical methodologies, and instructional materials, will be accumulated and shared for widespread application across all educational levels and the creative industries. Furthermore, we plan to expand our scope by the fifth year to actively incorporate the gaming sector.

Tokyo University of the Arts

As Japan's sole national comprehensive arts university, Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geidai) has driven world-class education and research since its founding. It has nurtured and produced numerous prominent artists while contributing to the preservation and development of art and culture through diverse social and creative practices.
The Graduate School of Film and New Media, which forms the core of this initiative, was established in Yokohama in 2005. It offers theory- and practice-based education and research through four specialized departments: Film, New Media, Animation, and Games and Interactive Arts.
