Project Objectives

The aim of this project is to establish a talent development scheme for theatrical professionals capable of performing on international stages. The key point is not only to enhance creativity but also to foster business management skills and global awareness among playwrights, directors, producers, arts managers, stage designers, stage technicians, actors, and dancers, so that they can bridge local resources and performing arts and effectively express their visions.

Project Approach

Through this project, Professional College of Arts and Tourism aspires to offer comprehensive education and training in planning, production, management, and creation, along with opportunities to develop their creative and collaborative skills in an intercultural environment through interactions with artists and institutions both in Japan and abroad. The college will also focus on development of cultural literacy (including the enhancement of language proficiency and cultural understanding) as well as building momentum towards international distribution. Furthermore, through coordination with local events such as the Toyooka Theater Festival held in the Tajima region, the college seeks to share the outcomes of its educational activities with the local community, demonstrate serve as an innovative model to bridge the community with the wider world, and set new guidelines for performing arts education in Japan.

Professional College of Arts and Tourism

Professional College of Arts and Tourism was established in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture in 2021 as Japan’s first professional and vocational university that offers interdisciplinary education in arts and tourism. The college aims to nurture professionals who can create value chains by integrating artistic and cultural perspectives, and tourism perspectives. With community-based educational research and industry-academia-government collaboration serving as its foundation, the college promotes the revitalization of culture and tourism as well as the development of a virtuous cycle of regional invigoration, contributing to the creation of new tourism business and development of international networks.
