Project Objectives

While Japan’s anime industry is globally renowned for its high quality and in great demand, lack of labor is a serious issue at production sites. This project aims to create the “Emerging Creator Award” at AnimeJapan, Japan’s biggest anime event. This will help discover promising emerging anime creators from universities and other educational institutions. Award winners will be given the chance to participate in practical talent development programs and to engage with the global market, which will lead to the nurturing of next generation talents and overall proficiency enhancement of the anime industry.

Project Approach

AnimeJapan’s “Emerging Creator Award” will be rewarded to students currently enrolled at an educational institution in Japan for the creation of an outstanding short animation. Winners will not only be given the privilege to participate in overseas anime events, but will also be given the opportunities to share their work to the world through distribution via a domestic and international platform. Through the implementation of this award, it is expected that educational institutions for the development of anime creators will introduce more practical curricula as well as boost students’ motivations to create animation.

AnimeJapan

AnimeJapan is one of the world’s largest anime events that started in 2014 and is hosted every spring at Tokyo Big Sight. This year, more than 150,000 visitors came to see the 130+ booths and 50 stage events during the two-day event which was held on March 28 and 29, driving both Japanese and foreign fans into a frenzy. It was also announced that next year’s AnimeJapan 2027 will be held in Osaka, not Tokyo.
