Project Objectives

This project positions Japan’s traditional culture as a shared asset of humanity and aims to promote mutual understanding and international relations through cultural exchange. Serving as a hub for both project implementation and talent development, the Tokyo National Museum will lead exhibitions that introduce Japanese art and craftsmanship—particularly to regions such as Asia, BRICS, and other nations in the south, where Japan’s future economic engagements are required. The Global Exhibition Team (GET) trains high-level professionals who will play an important part internationally, aiming to advance Japan’s cultural presence on the world stage as well as to cultivate an international fan base for Japanese culture.

Project Approach

The Global Exhibition Team (GET) aims to build networks with overseas museums and become an international hub for researching and promoting Japanese culture, along with training young talents such as curators who will play an important role on the world stage. The trainees will focus on cultivating an international fan base of Japanese culture and nurturing local experts. The team will establish this international hub with programs such as projects to develop exhibition methods, and strive to achieve its goals through Japanese arts and crafts exhibitions around the world.

Tokyo National Museum

The Tokyo National Museum has the longest history of any museum in Japan. It was established in 1872 following the opening of the Ministry of Education Exhibition at Yushima Seidō in Tokyo. It houses approximately 120,000 tangible cultural artifacts—including National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties—from Japan and across Asia. The museum plays a vital role in both promoting the beauty of its artifacts worldwide and preserving them for future generations.
