Project Objectives
Kabuki is one of Japan’s traditional performing arts and is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Fostering its appreciation and practice overseas will enhance Japan’s cultural presence on the global stage. This project will nurture Kabuki professionals through various initiatives, including performances by emerging artists, streaming, workshops, and showcase productions abroad. Experienced creators—including actors and staff with a background in overseas performances—will serve as mentors to strengthen training for the next generation.
Project Approach
This project offers overseas workshops supervised by Bando Tamasaburo, along with domestic Kabuki classes with an international focus. Experienced performers mentor young creators in Kabuki showcases streamed with English subtitles. It aims to nurture globally active Kabuki actors and staff and promote Kabuki’s expansion abroad as a unique Japanese cultural heritage.
