Project Objectives
Taking the opera Super Angels—presented at the New National Theatre, Tokyo, as part of the Japan Cultural Expo—as its starting point, this project presents a new form of staging, opening up new expressive possibilities around what it means to be human in a world seemingly nearing its end and increasingly shaped by advanced technologies such as AI. Bringing together Sir Wayne McGregor, one of Britain’s foremost choreographers and directors, composer Keiichiro Shibuya, and architect Kazuyo Sejima—taking on stage design for the very first time—the production realizes a genuinely cross-disciplinary work. Following its world premiere in Europe, the piece will tour internationally, with an integrated training program running alongside it to nurture the next generation of talent capable of carrying creative works from initial production through to global rollouts.
Project Approach
Composed by Keiichiro Shibuya, “Super Angels” is a new-concept opera depicting a future of human-technology coexistence. This project brings an international director as co-creator for the new series, fostering talent in each role from creation to overseas expansion. Young multi-skilled artists form teams with mentors to create and develop continuously in this new field.
